Even if the race has been dominated by the FDJ riders yesterday in Ponchateau, the 3rd and last round of the French National Cyclo-cross challenge was undecided until the finish line yesterday in Pontchateau.
In the head of the race, a group of 7 riders escaped : 3 FDJ riders - Francis Mourey, Steve Chainel and Arnold Jeannesson - but the opposition was huge: John Gadret, Matthieu Boulo, Romain Lejeune and Guillaume Perrot. 2 laps to the finish line and Matthieu Boulo attacked. Consequently the leading group immediaty exploded. Francis Mourey was the only rider able to react and after a strong effort, made the junction, 1 lap to the finish line.
In the last lap, Francis’s experience made the difference, and he finally took victory with a 9 seconds gap on Boulo. John Gadret completed the podium. FDJ team mates Arnold Jeannesson and Steve Chainel follow, they are 4th and 5th.
Francis Mourey claims victory on the overall classification of the CX National Challenge for the 9th time in a row, a record! Let’s hope for a 10th overall victory next year.
