The Criterium International was taking place this week-end in Corsica: 3 stages in 2 days, including 1 time trial on Saturday. The 3rd stage, with a lot of climbs, was announced decisive: 24 riders holding in 20 seconds at the overall classification before this last stage.
The FDJ Bigmat made a huge work for Pierrick Fedrigo before the last climb, col de l’Ospedon (14,2km at 6,2%), where he already took the victory 2 years ago. After many attacks in the peloton, a group of 4 will finally escaped, including Cadel Evans (leader at the overall), Rinaldo Nocentini, Lars-Peter Nordhaug and Pierrick Fedrigo. The final sprint makes the decision, and Pierrick Fedrigo shows that he is back on top, winning here, 2 years after his victory on the same stage. He also takes the 2nd place at the overall behind Cadel Evans.
1st victory for Pierrick Fedrigo under FDJ's colors!
Steve Chainel took a promising 8th place on Gand Wevelgem. A good result in the perspective of the Classics (Tour of Flanders, Paris-Roubaix, Liège-Bastogne-Liège,…). The Belgian rider Tom Boonen takes the victory.
