There was little suspense yesterday at the Cyclo-Cross French Championships in Lignières (Cher).
After competing with flying colours in the National Challenge this season and several top 5s in the World Cup, Francis Mourey was regarded as ultra- favorite for the championship. Title holder, he had the goal of an 8th Elite National title. Mission accomplished! Francis Mourey now holds the Cyclo-Cross record, with 8 national titles, all won on his Lapierre!
In the 1st lap, Francis Mourey already opened a gap on his opponents. And despite a small technical error in the 2nd lap, nobody saw him again until the finish line. Behind him, it was a battle for the silver. 2nd place was eventually secured by the MTB rider and Nicolas Bazin completed the podium with 3rd place.
3 weeks before the World Championships, the FDJ.fr rider confirmed his status, and is now targeting a medal at the Worlds.
Before that, the World Cup in Nommay will be the last big test, then he will be 100% focused on the Worlds in Hoogerheide (Netherlands).
In the Junior category, Hugo Pigeon (MTB rider from Team Lapierre Veloroc) took a superb 2nd place .
