Milan San-Remo took place yesterday in atrocious conditions. On the FDJ.fr side, hopes were placed in Arnaud Démare, currently in good shape, and Yoann Offredo, for who Milan San-Remo is one of his favorite races of the year.
After nearly 300 km, a sprint finish concluded the race, with a group of 25 riders. To everyone's surprise, the Norwegian rider Kristoff (Team Katusha ) claimed victory in front of Fabian Cancellara (Trek Factory Team) and Ben Swift (Team Sky) .
Yoann Offredo tried to speed up on the last climb, but the pace was already extremely high. He explains: "I had the idea to attack in the Poggio. With guys like Kristoff or Cavendish still in the pack, it was all so complicated. I talked to Sylvain Chavanel. We thought we would try something together but it was not possible. At the end everyone was very tired. We were in pieces. It's Milan -San Remo...”
Arnaud Démare was not far off the mark either; he cracked on the top of the Cipressa (before the last climb) and he was hardly off the pace of the lead group. He finished 34th.
Program of the week for Team FDJ.fr: Tour of Catalonia with our climbers (Pinot, Geniez, Elissonde , Jeannesson) and next week-end the Classics with the GP E3 and Gent-Wevelgem.
