May 1910. Two months before the start of the 8thedition of the Tour de France, Alphonse Steines drove his car to the foot of the Col du Tourmalet in the Pyrenees.
He was a journalist at L'Auto and was responsible for planning the route for the Tour de France. For quite some time, he’d had just one idea in mind: he wanted to find out if it was possible for the riders in the next edition to enter the Pyrenees for the first time. No one had ever dared to try this before.
He made it! Loic Bruni claimed victory in Leogang and became part of the club of DH world champions!
Congratulations to the FDJ-BigMat Team
Tour de Wallonie
Amazing performance from Loic Bruni yesterday in Windham on the 5th round of the World Cup. Only 18 years old, he missed the round in Mont St Anne because he had to take his exams, but went back in Windham and got his 1st podium with Elite riders.
This was a huge breath of fresh air for the FDJ-BigMat Team, who had been overwhelmed with bad luck for several weeks. Arthur Vichot, after breaking away with ten riders, won on Friday the fifth stage of the Criterium du Dauphine, offering the “Clover team” its first victory in the World Tour this year.
The 23 year old rider of the FDJ-BigMat achieved the greatest success of his young career in Rumilly, by winning the 5th stage of the Dauphiné Libéré. Arthur Vichot was among a ten riders breakaway, since km 60. He left the other riders on the final part of the race to ride and cross the finishing line alone. The last victory of the FDJ during the Dauphiné Libéré dated back to 2006 when Philippe Gilbert won the St-Galmier race.
Our riders did well during the 3rd DH WC in Fort William !
Discover the new Lapierre truck!
A great performance for Sam Blenkinsop who takes the best place of the Team Lapierre International Riders, finishing 10th. A good result for our Kiwi!
Loic Bruni takes the 18th place at scratch but 1st in the Juniors category.
Cam Cole finish 34t.
For the 2nd Stage of the French Cup in St Pompon ( France – 24), Jordan Sarrou takes the first place in U23 and at the same times a great 3rd place at scratch behind Fabien Canal (1st) and Alexis Chenevier (2nd).
He’s 4th at the overall of the French Cup after this 2 first Stage.
At the XC Eliminator, Jordan Sarrou finish at the 5th place of the Final.
After a great 3rd and 2nd place on the 2 first stage of the Tour of Bavière by Yauheni Hutarovich, a great 10th place for Jeremy Roy at the Time trial of the 3rd stage. At the End Jeremy Roy is on the Final Top 10 with a beautiful 9th place.
Nacer Bouhanni claims his 1st victory on a stage race. Winner of the 1st stage, then 3rd and 2nd of the 2 next stages, he finally kept the leader jersey all week long, thanks to an amazing work from the FDJ Bigmat riders!
The 4th round of the XC World Cup and 3rd round of XC Eliminator was taking place this week-end in La Bresse – France.
Alexis Vuillermoz was taking part in the XC Eliminator for the 1st time, on this new format of race, in the streets of La Bresse. He passes the first rounds with success but blocks in the semi-final. He still has the small final, where he manages to take 5th place.
On the U23 XC race, Jordan Sarrou and Thomas Lapeyrie were competing. On the most technical XC track of the year, according to the riders, Jordan finished 22nd and Thomas taking 42nd place.
On the XC Elite race, a huge crowd was there in the Vosges mountains to support and see the triumph of Julien Absalon, a few kilometers from his hometown. Hard race for our Lapierre riders; Alexis Vuillermoz got his rear derailleur shooted by another rider at the start, and could only use 2 gears during the race. He still pushed to the limits and was holding around 30th place during half of the race. But he finally had to stop at the technical assistance to try to make it work. That was finally impossible and he unfortunately had to quit the race. Pierre Geoffroy Plantet is 72nd.
