Unbelievable ! For his 1st year as a pro rider, and after only 6 days of racing under FDJ’s colors, Marc Fournier claimed a superb victory on the Sarthe circuit.
On the first stage, when everyone expected a massive sprint for the finish, the young rider escaped on the beginning of the race and won with more than 2 minutes ahead of the peloton.
Galvanized by this result, he took the 5th place on the time trial and kept his leader's jersey until the fifth and final stage. A first great victory for the neo-pro rider at 21 years old!
At the Tour of Pais Vasco, Thibaut Pinot had the opportunity to compete with the best climbers in the world.
Close from the podium and the final overall victory, he finished in 4th place overall, behind Alberto Contador, Sergio Henao and Nairo Quintana. Solid performance in line with his excellent start of the season.
Paris-Roubaix, the FDJ team missed its leader Arnaud Démare, who had to recover after his big crash on the Tour of Flanders and could not even take the start here. With the aim to gain experience and have fun, FDJ riders did their maximum on the famous French Classic. Johan Le Bon appeared in the escaped group of the day, but couldn’t make it until the finish line.
It’s the Australian rider Mathew Hayman who won ahead of Tom Boonen and Ian Stannard.
