The Tour de France was launched on Saturday in Utrecht – Netherlands.
With a promising time-trial, Thibaut Pinot was a few seconds ahead of the final podium contenders (Nibali, Quintana), but things got complicated yesterday for the leader of the FDJ team.
During the second stage, a group of 30 riders escaped at 60kms from the finish line, and crossed the line with more than a minute ahead of the peloton. In this escaped group we found Alberto Contador (Tinkoff) and Chris Froome (Team Sky). In the second group: Thibaut Pinot, Nairo Quintana and the 2015 Tour winner Vincenzo Nibali.
On the 3rd stage today, which arrival was taking place at the top of the Mur de Huy, we saw another crazy race. Crashes (William Bonnet from Team FDJ gave up after a big crash) and attacks everywhere. Again, Thibaut Pinot was trapped and lost more than 1min30 on the final stage winner Joaquin Rodriguez. Let’s hope for more favorable conditions for our leader in the coming days!
